Axis of Eve

Mission : Expose and Depose
“Do right and you will be conspicuous”
–Mark Twain, 1901

“Let’s expose the bastard, one panty at a time!”
–axis of eve supporter
The Axis of Eve is a coalition of brazen women on a mission to EXPOSE and DEPOSE President Select George W. Bush and his deceitful administration. Convinced that effective political action can be irreverent and exciting, we have launched a titillating campaign of TRUTH-FLASHING coordinated around our provocative line of protest panties.

No More Cover-ups
We Eves are gearing up for a shameless summer of panty-flashing to lay bare the shameful tactics of the Bush administration and boldly demand an end to political cover-up. Our campaign for naked democracy will culminate at the Republican National Convention in NYC in September, where we will create a media spectacle b(e)aring messages of truth, accountability, and peace.

Fox Fights Back Against ‘NY Times’ Over Film Story

NEW YORK At a well-attended press conference this afternoon in New York promoting the new documentary “Outfoxed,” Fox News offered its rebuttal to the film, as well as a full-frontal attack on The New York Times, which published an article about the movie yesterday in its Sunday magazine.

In a statement handed out at the press conference by an unidentified woman, Fox News declared, “The illegal copyright infringement actions of moveon.org in cooperation with The New York Times, including ‘cutting a deal’ not to give Fox News Channel adequate time to react, is unprecedented.” The Times, it said, in “taking orders from” a George Soros-funded Web site, “corrupts the journalistic process. This is the real story.” It described Soros as “a left-wing billionaire currency speculator who funds many liberal efforts.”

The New York Times Magazine had quoted from internal memos sent to Fox staffers by a senior vice president, which seemed to illustrate a conservative bias. Fox has since released other memos that called for balanced reporting in certain areas.

Fox has also argued that the Times only gave the network one day to respond before the article was finished, while the Times says it had three days to do so.

“Any news organization that believes this story is big and Fox News Channel is a problem, will be challenged by Fox News Channel in the following manner: If they will put out 100% of their editorial directions and internal memos, Fox News Channel will publish 100% of our editorial directions and internal memos, and let the public decide who is fair. This includes any legitimate cable news network, broadcast network, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post.”

The Fox statement also attempted a takedown of several ex-Fox employees, labeled by the filmmakers as “whistleblowers,” who appeared in the film (and at the press conference). Fox referred to them as “low level” employees, adding that some left due to incompetence, “and none expressed concern about editorial policy while employees.”

Fox said that Clara Frenk, described in the film as a “producer” at Fox News, was actually a “pool booker.” Frenk, at the press conference, said she held both positions. She also challenged Fox’s statement that she had “expressed no concern about the editorial process while she was employed” at the channel, explaining she had told her boss that the channel’s paid consultants on the right were far more recognizable figures than those on the left.

In a separate sheet, Fox pointed out what it called inaccuracies in how the film described four of the ex-employees, claiming some worked for Fox but not Fox News. It referred to one the employee’s “personnel file,” revealing that “he was considered to be a weak field correspondent and could not do live shots.”

At the press conference, one of the former Fox employees, Larry C. Johnson, referred to the “Stalinist environment” at Fox.

Fox in its handout distributed two recent articles about “Outfoxed” by the Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz, so reporters could learn about “parts of the movie that are distorted and actually incorrect.”

Following the press conference, the film’s director Robert Greenwald told E&P that there were many other Fox employees who would like to speak out but are afraid. He asked Fox to “guarantee the jobs” of anyone who “wants to come forward.” He also defended the overall accuracy of the film.

The press conference got a bit heated during the Q&A when a current employee of Fox said that over 15 years at the network he had never experienced intimidation or been threatened. “That’s wonderful news,” Greenwald replied. “But these folks had it.”

He also offered to let Fox air his film “for free.”

Crappy comment spammers

July 12th, 2004

Please ignore the crappy comment spammers. I’ll try to get something up soon to do comment screening, sigh. I hate this stupid shit these morons do to ruin the net for everyone… meantime I’m closing comments for most entries for a while. Not that I get many anyway.

I really wonder what puts it into people’s heads to do shit like this. But then, I wonder what puts it into people’s heads to get rich and then screw the poor, strive for power so much that they’re willing to screw a whole country or two, and lots of other things. Sigh. It was nice having a couple of weeks away from the idiocy of this country. Hawaii really felt like a foreign place, the people there are so liberal. I hope they will get lots of midwest visitors who might be influenced somewhat by the open hostility shown to Bush. I really think that’s the answer – to just shame his supporters into realizing exactly what it is they support – theft, corruption, a useless and unnecessary war, and all the rest of the crap these people stand for. Why do they let themselves be bought off with a few scraps of fear and a stance against such horrors as gay marriage? Don’t these people have any gay friends or relatives? Don’t they have any understanding of what it’s like to want to vi!
sit a sick relative and not be able to, or not be able to get benefits for someone you love just as they would their spouse?

And then they call themselves Christian. I’ve yet to see anyone from the Christian right really show any compassion for others – at least others who aren’t also rich, Republican, and able to cut them a check or a good business deal.

Sorry, I’ve just kind of had it today. To come back from vacation to the same tired lines from these people and then see them accuse others of pessimism – as if there was any optimism in their vision of America, except for those that are already haves and have mores.

Back from vacation in Hawaii

July 9th, 2004

Just got back to San Diego last night after a wonderful two weeks in Hawaii, Maui, and Kauai. It was a great trip, with lots of snorkeling, boat rides, volcano watching, and so much more. While in Maui, we took the kids to see Farenheit 9/11. It was an interesting film, and the Hawaii audience reacted with a great deal of applause. I certainly didn’t hear anything new from the facts I’ve noted the past couple of years via various Internet sites. But the presentation of them was outstanding, and will surely win Moore another Oscar.

It seems strange that in a state so beautiful as Hawaii, with so much to do, the people are well informed about what is going on in the world. Perhaps because there are so many visitors from around the world, people in Hawaii tend to become very well informed. Much the same thing happens in San Diego, but there is a broad base of conservatism that seems to choose to remain uninformed. I don’t really know why.

I was happy to get home to my beautiful and loving golden retriever and my kitties. I’ll miss gorgeous beaches, waves crashing outside my window, turtles surfing in the waves, and all the other fantastic sites of Hawaii. And I will be back, to visit the special beach where my parents have found a final resting place, under a mountain whose Hawaiian name means “Remember”. There is so much of this beautiful trip I will fondly remember, as well as my wonderful parents.
