Yup, Maya's Granny, you get it, too.

Libertarianism is a great philosophy - the problem is, as I've heard from so many true libertarians, we need to erect the "Statue of Resposibility" on the other coast, to go with the Statue of Liberty on the east coast. Too many people, especially those in power right now, just don't get that if you make a mess, you have to clean it up.

Using libertarianism as an excuse for "me first, screw you" politics really pisses me off. I used to like the Cato Institute and other libertarian organizations, now I hate them. I noticed the shift in the late 80s, and started wondering who the heck bought them off. I guess they believed the lies of those coming to power, and thought they would finally get the government they wanted. Hopefully now they are seeing the truth about the evil Bush family and their cronies, along with the religious right and all the other interest groups they convinced they were favoring. The only ones the Bushies really were for was themselves and the rich - and the rich haven't begun to realize just exactly how screwed they are in the long run yet. When the shit hits the fan, they'll be stuck with the huge, huge bill to fix it all.

I have been a libertarian my entire adult life, and am now a progressive. How nice to find someone who is where I am for the reasons I am.
