And huge. You can’t really tell from the picture, but she’s about two and a half feet long. Her wing span was a good four feet. A really gorgeous red tailed hawk.
(I’m calling it a she since the females are typically larger)
I also find it a thrill to see raptors nearby. There are several which patrol our neighborhood regularly. In addition to the usual hawks (mostly red-shouldered), we see ospreys and other hawks I haven’t identified yet.
Lately, in our general vicinity, I’ve been seeing a fair number of swallow-tailed kites. I really like seeing these beautiful birds. No photo ops yet.

I just wish I had your camera and skills, gerry! I was kind of annoyed I couldn’t zoom in any closer.
Someday I’ll get a real digital SLR camera….
