Prelude to Civilization, Victor Brauner

They civilize what’s pretty
By puttin’ up a city
Where nothin’ that’s
Pretty can grow….
They civilize left
They civilize right
Till nothing is left
Till nothing is right…

  1. Great post!

I particularly like “A civilized society is one which tolerates eccentricity to the point of doubtful sanity.” — Robert Frost

    Nice work. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I suppose “civilization” is one of those words open to any definition anyone wants to give it. If you are running low on gas late at night on an empty highway, a 24 hour gas station with mini-mart probably seems like “civilization.”
