Another great reason not to tweet

OK, I rest my case now.

I am, however, almost talked into Facebook. Still not sure it’s worth it, though. I mean, it’s not like I’m hard to find on the Internet, after all. And I really don’t give a rats ass about other people’s baby pictures. They all look all wrinkly and scrunchy and red anyway. And your vacation pictures only make me envious.

But wait — there’s more. Good grief, people — get lives.

And oh, yeah — facebook makes people dumb.

  1. I have six people following my Twitter feed.

And because my feed is marked private, these six people are the only ones who can see my tweets.

It’s all in how you use it.

  2. Agreed. I do see its usefulness.

I think I’ve just been fighting abuse of the Internet for way too many years now. I’m sick of porn and idiocies being its main application.

But then I suppose that pretty well describes the human condition overall.

  3. I went on facebook a week ago today – I am overwhelmed by the number of people who have made me their facebook friends. – And — there are a number of them that are a true delight 🙂

  4. Facebook can be useful for getting in touch with old friends–I’ve actually reconnected with a bunch of people from various times of my life, and that’s been wonderful. What’s strange is all of the people I don’t know…and, even weirder, the people I used to know but didn’t like and who didn’t like me, either–most recently a guy I knew throughout junior high and high school who never said one word to me that wasn’t abusive. Apparently he’s trying to recreate his adolescent life. How strange this virtual world.

    • I’m not hard to find if people want to connect with me. I think a lot of people just get some kind of ego boost from having a lot of “friends” on Facebook.

What would be wonderful to me is for those friends I really miss to connect with me, the ones who decided not to speak to me after knowing me for over a dozen years. But I don’t expect that to happen, even of Facebook. They know where I am and how to find me already.

As to those I knew years and years ago, if they are or were important to me, they are pretty much still in my life. If they are not, it’s because they haven’t let me know about their desires. Google knows where to find me pretty easily.
